Frequently Asked Questions
***Please commit to attending camp all three days for the entire duration.*** Any missed time at camp may inhibit the progress of your band!
Who can sign up for WRRR?
Women, trans, and nonbinary folks over the age of 19 can sign up for Women's Rock n Roll Retreat. NO MUSICAL EXPERIENCE NECESSARY / ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME. You don’t have to bring your own instrument, but feel free to do so if you like.
What instrument can I play at WRRR? Do I have to own my instrument? Do I have to have any experience or take lessons prior to WRRR?
You can choose between drums, electric guitar, electric bass, keyboards and vocals! We will have all necessary instruments and gear at camp, so do not worry if you don't have one! You do NOT have to have ANY instrument experience before camp. Our teachers are very skilled and will help you rock out whether you have never touched your instrument or you have played it for 50+ years. At last years camp, 40% of campers had never played their instrument and they all totally rocked.
Will I be able to play my first choice instrument at camp?
We will make every attempt to honor your first instrument choice. Sometimes, in order to make sure that all bands have the necessary instrumentation, we may need to switch you to your second or third choice instrument.
What does low or no scent mean?
She Rock She Rock works to create a low/no scent spaces for all of our programming, in order to be accessible to folks with chemical/scent sensitivities. Personal care products such as perfume, essential oils, scented lotions, fragranced hair products and/or similar products should not be worn at WRRR.
Will I receive private instruction?
Much of the learning and activities that take place at WRRR are in a group setting. For instrument instruction, you will be paired with 2-4 of your peers and an instructor. But, you will have the opportunity to stay late or come early to camp to have a 30 minute, private instrument lesson with one of the WRRR instructors. Private lessons will be offered after camp Friday night, before and after camp on Saturday, and before camp on Sunday. You can register and pay for one or two lessons on your camp registration form. A sign up for days/times will be sent out a few weeks prior to camp. Private lessons are $30 per lesson.
What if the instrument I'd like to sign up for is full?
We encourage you to try another instrument! Remember, there is no experience necessary- many campers return year after year and try out new instruments every time! If you have your heart set on a particular instrument, though, you can sign up for our waiting list.
I'm really hesitant to sign up for camp. What if I'm not good at songwriting or playing an instrument?
New experiences can be really scary and we understand that this weekend can be intimidating for some folks. We are here to provide a safe, non-judgemental and non-competitive space to try new things and ROCK OUT. We have a talented staff who will be there to help you the whole weekend. All songs are written collaboratively, so you will have your 4-5 other bandmates and your 2 band coaches to help you out. And, there are no apologies at camp. Seriously, it's our rule to say 'I Rock' when we make mistakes and not 'I'm Sorry'. We make it a point to make sure everyone knows how hard THEY ROCK no matter how much musical experience they have. We will work with you to make camp an uplifting experience.
Okay, that makes sense. But, I'm "Just a mom" or "Just a banker", should I really attend this camp?
First of all, you are not "just" anything! You are a unique, one-of-a-kind human being! You deserve to take time for yourself and learn something new (or hone in on your creative skill). WRRR is a great way to meet new people, connect with your creativity and boost your confidence. Even if you never touch your instrument before camp or after camp, the experience is incredibly rewarding and you will have a blast.
What is the cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel after sending in your registration, please notify email@example.com right away. If you choose to donate your tuition fee, you will be given a tax receipt. If you cancel anytime prior to a month before camp, you are entitled to a full refund minus a $25 cancellation fee. If you cancel during the month prior to camp, you will not be issued a refund. In the event of a medical emergency, credit for a future session may be available. Please note that absolutely no refunds will be issued after the start of the program.
Is food provided for the participants?
As of right now, meals and snacks are not included in the tuition price. We are hoping to secure donations to be able to provide a few lunches or snacks and will provide information about that once you register. The facility we will be at is within walking distance from many restaurants, coffee shops and cafes. Also, feel free to bring a bag lunch and snacks, we have a refrigerator at the facility if you need to use it.
Can I play my acoustic guitar at camp?
We think acoustic guitars are super cool, but we also strongly encourage folks to step out of their comfort zone and try out the electric guitar! If you'd like to try an electric, we've got one we can loan you for the duration of camp! If you really want to play your acoustic- just make sure it has a pickup in it. Otherwise you won't be able to hear it over the drummer in your band, and we generally don't have enough microphones to share with guitars.
I'm coming in from out of town, can I stay overnight at the camp location?
WRRR is not an overnight camp, but there are plenty of hotels nearby (camp is about 15-20 min from the Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport) where you can book a room. Also, AirBNB could be a good option for an inexpensive place to stay. We are also asking registrants to indicate whether or not they'd be willing to house an out-of-town camper for the weekend, so that may be a possibility too: e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to find out if there is anyone on the list and we can send you their contact info.
Okay, I'm considering going to camp, but I'm still unsure. Are you sure I should attend?
YES! You rock! It's okay to be nervous or unsure, in fact many folks come into camp on the first morning and are incredibly hesitant or nervous. You'll get through it and you'll have a blast. Do it.
