Lead GRRR Teacher Position Description

Lead GRRR Teachers work full time for all four weeks of GRRR

They must display the following qualities
-Enthusiasm and positivity towards the program and mission
-The ability to organize a group of teachers and lead them when needed
-The ability to lead and instruct up to 8 campers on their own
-The ability to lead and encourage fellow teachers and staff
-Songwriting experience
-Proficiency on guitar, bass, drums, vocals and/or keyboards
-Must have prior experience teaching at a SR2 camp

Duties before camp:
-Check e-mail 1-2 times a week to receive important camp updates
-Create curriculum for given instrument that includes a meeting with all lead teachers
-Thoroughly learn the camp cover songs
-Lead instrument segment at teacher orientation
-Attend both the NEW teacher orientation and the all-teacher orientation
-Assist in four roadie shifts

Duties during camp
-Actively engaged in camp activities
-Lead band rehearsals as a band coach which includes helping the band learn how to play as a group musically, helping with interpersonal communication, troubleshooting gear, guiding the band through collaboration and compromise and assisting campers with creating parts
-Lead instrument instruction as an instrument coach which includes teaching small group classes and coordinating curriculum between other instrument coaches, junior teachers and junior counselors, breaking down music fundamentals in a language relevant to the age group at camp, using SR2 music curriculum to teach and assigning students to teachers in their instrument groups
-Lead 6-8 campers comfortably
-Assist campers in workshops
-Attend pre- and post-camp meetings
-Check in with fellow instrument coaches to ensure success of campers
-Participate in skits
-Help and advise co-teachers (especially Junior Teachers & Junior Counselors) when needed
-Help students during the student/teacher jam
-Respect and honor yourself, fellow staff members, students, SR2 directors, SR2 equipment and our camp location building

Note: This is a contract position.  Lead GRRR Teachers must be over the age of 18 and must have previously taught at a SR2 program. This position requires a lot of leadership. Lead GRRR Teachers will receive a stipend for their time at camp as well as a letter recommendation if requested.

Time Requirements

Staff Orientation:
Sunday, June 10th, 2pm-4:30pm AND Sunday, July 8th, 11:00am-4:30pm

Roadie Shifts (you choose one, two hour slot per week of camp worked):
Saturday, July 7: 9am-5pm
Friday, July 20: 8pm-10pm
Saturday, July 21: 9am-5pm
Friday, August 3: 8pm-10pm
Monday, August 6: 9am-11am

Camp Hours:
Mondays (7/9, 7/16, 7/23 & 7/30): 7:30am-5:30pm
Tuesdays-Thursdays (7/10-7/12, 7/17-7/19, 7/24-7/26, 7/31-8/2): 8:30am-5:30pm
Fridays (7/13, 7/20, 7/27, 8/3): 8:30am- 7:30pm
